Many would like a remake mainly for the nostalgia factor. While others would just like to play the game in hd like graphics to see Tifa in all her rememorable cutscenes. 
It comes to no surprise, when you look at how well it sold on the PSP/PS3’s Psn network after launch in the matter of weeks. Total was well over 100,000. The sheer fan base of what was many’s 1st & introduction game to the genre of RPG’s in general is nothing less then mindblowing. People still to this day, consider Final Fantasy VII the pinnacle of RPG’s.
What shattered many dreams of those wanting a remake the 1st time. was the viewing of the tech demo of the 1st introductory CG scene. Which was merely used for the intending purpose of displaying the sheer power of Sony’s Playstation 3 them years back. It instead fueled the desire of many wanting a remake for years to come. Wishful thinking of having a remake & playing through the game with no outdated blocked graphics of 97. This desire unfortunately keeps getting shut down.
The latest shutdown comes from game director Tetsuya Nomura. During this weeks “Famitsu” Japan’s largest video game magazine,. Which is currently looking into popular game characters. Stated, not to expect a remake anytime in the near future. Nomura feels the reason Coud has received such favor amongst players is due to the strong impact & personality during the scenario.
Regarding an remake. Nomura stated: “Fans are looking forward to an oft rumored remake of FFVII, but I don’t believe this will happen for the time being. However, it’s possible that he will appear in other titles as a guest character.”
So in the meantime look forward to seeing cloud along with other memorable FF7 characters in Kingdom Hearts or something of the sort.
Maybe one day. PS4 or something. They will remake FF7-9 or something.
