HH Rants: Top-20 Sexiest “Chicas”

Girls, Chicks, Babes, Ladies…Games would be su much different without them, in a bad kind of way. Right off the boat, video games treat womens as sex objects, that is not even a question or a theory, is a FACT. That`s not as shocking as you may think since video games threat everything as objects and backgrounds, it`s just how they are designed. Now comes the question, this is a fact but is it a problem? That`s a question I`ll try to solve on my next article, as of now, I`ll provide you with a brief introduction to the topic and the list you are craving to see of course.

>Female characters tend to be overrated in video games. This is not to say that the videogame world doesn`t have its powerful female characters or the ones who stick in your mind as being valiant. Instead, it appears that in 9 times out of 10 they are referred to as “eye candy” and are never really given a second glance for what makes them an important character. With the list below, I tried to avoid the purely “eye candy” female characters, and decided instead to look at the depth of the characters out there. Have to say that I failed miserably though. Let`s face it, in the world of entertainment two things sell: sex and violence. So why should video games be any different? While the video game market has been changing in these last years, there`s no way to deny that guys dominate most of the video game market, and if there are 2 things to get a guy`s attention, it`s blowing things up and babes, that`s just how most of us are. However, this babe factor hasn`t always worked; sometimes it sells a game, sometimes it backfires it. Still, in this era of HD gaming, new motion controllers and rounder polygons (Pun intended), its only natural that most companies will try to outdo each other in the world of sex and developer`s code.

There`s nothing wrong with fantasizing about the pixel-curves of your favorite video game chick. Compare it to the pictures of Angelina Jolie you google nightly; you are exactly as likely to bed her as you are to mix it up with any of these girls. See, now you can see this list and feel proud of yourself. With that being said, you have to consider that this is MY list, my very VERY biased list. I guarantee that you won`t agree with some of these picks but just take in mind that there`s no way a list like this can be right. After all, everyone has different tastes and preferences when it comes to chicks, am I right or not? Also, take in mind that I was using the “one character per franchise” rule, difficult decisions were made. ♥ #20: Kasumi (Dead or Alive Series)

A female ninja with a knack for voleyball. Kasumi is, perhaps, one of the most recognizable Dead or Alive girls. She battles with her Mugen Tenshin Style of Ninjutsu (whatever that means) and she isn`t a bad character by any means…but in comparison to other fighting game females, she is lacking in a few areas. Her personality is OK. Like with most Dead or Alive girls, her main draw seems to be her big boobs and suggestive outfits (which isn`t bad at all)…but yeah! The lasting appeal isn`t there for those of us that aren`t so simple-minded. Still, she is not a terrible ninja girl design, but she is certainly not the best. She managed to get on this list thanks to the “Boobs Physic” Implementation of the series.

Bear with me for a moment, I wasn`t intending to add Zelda to this list but she somehow managed to sneak her way in. While she didn`t start as much in the original Zelda games for NES, she quickly gained momentum with every release of a new Zelda game. I know what you`re thinking: she is always kidnapped and there is no way she is that strong of a female character. I beg to differ, Zelda is not as weak as we are lead to believe. Think about it, the girl can not only cast powerfull magical spells but she also happens to be one talented fighter in the form of her alter-ego: Sheik. Sheik gave us a run for our money more often than not in the games, I`ll give you that but still there`s something hidden on her that we don`t know and for that fact alone she definitely ranks up here. Also, her ethereal looks, elegance and modesty adds to her overall appearance. Plus she has a hot pair of pointy ears!…Hot in weird kind of way.

Choosing a favorite female character from the Mortal Kombat series was not an easy task. When it all boiled down, I had to choose Jade over Kitana. The personal assasin of Shao Kan, her main weapons are a metal staff and razor edged boomerangs, not too shabby in my opinion. Jade has some nice legs and sports a skin tight green outfit. It`s a look I actually liked by following the approach of “the tigher the clothes the better”. Plus, pulling of good-looking in green (a color that I sort of hate) is quite an impressive feat.

During the late 80`s and mid 90`s there was a craze that assaulted Arcades everywhere; Beat`em Ups. At one point a dominant genre on the industry, now shadowed and no longer relevant. Sega was famous for producing several of these games, Streets of Rage quickly became one of the most popular games to ever grace the Arcades and the Genesis. Blaze, one of the main characters, quickly became one of the most popular female characters of the era. A sexy-looking girl that kicked a lot of ass; instant hit on the genre. Altought Beat`em Ups are no longer are popular genre, Blaze can take comfort in knowing that she has left an impact in games, even if that impact was sometimes a painful one.

Nina appeared in the very first Tekken game, bringing a versatile set of fighting moves to go along with her killer looks. Besides being a capable fighter, she also happens to be an assasin that works for the British Secret Agency. Nina is one of the most skilled and enduring Tekken characters with a range of saucy outfits to boot. She is low on the list due to her robotic personality, then again she is a cold-blooded assasin and that`s part of the plot itself so I guess is forgivable. At least, she manages to looks good while kicking other people`s asses.

Altough I would have personally chosen Cham Cham over Nakoruru since I am more skilled with her, intellectual honesty forces me to admit that the later one is a much more popular character in the series. Nakoruru is a kind girl who loves nature and fights those with evil hearts. The original nature loving-girl of the series has a very cute and harmless look that would sooth anyone, but don`t be fooled as she can hold her own in battle with her great skills. Without a doubt a memorable character in the series. Not as well-known as the other female fighters but Nakoruru has all the bells and whistles to prove her worthy of being on this list. The most original part about her is, of course, the fact that she can use her pet hawk in battle, a very innovative feature about her design and for a fighting game character at the time.

A sleek-looking secret agrent who starred in the follow-up of one the most popular games ever. Joanna Dark is a hot-looking redhead with killing talents and a body to match, she works for the Carrington Institute and is certified for international operations. Her technical skills stretch as far as wiring up a charge, picking a lock or hacking a basic system. All pretty practical stuff. Has the guile to get herself out of the tightest of situations and knows how to handle large weapons. Not a bad setup.

We might have an sleeper on this list with Jade. Anyone who appreciates fantasy-based games design has played Beyond Good and Evil at one point during their lifetime. Jade`s charm relies not only on her personality but also on her uniqueness and lavishness. One of the strongest willed female characters I`ve ever enjoyed playing as. While having Jade take pictures of animals at first seemed a little bit wonky, it was the other pictures we could take that filled us with a deep seeded adoration of delivering the truth to the people. Jade reminded me of some of the strong female reporters who have been present in literature throughout the years, yet she had her own style that refused to be compared to anyone else. She also knows her way around a bo staff while wearing some interesting fashion choices. Seriously, who else do you know that can pull off a good-looking figure with a particular shade of green lipstick?

Soul Calibur is amongst the best 3-D fighting games out there and while most people would instantly assume that Ivy, Taki or Cassandra could have made their way onto this list, Seung Mina proves that sometimes is best to keep things simple. Honest here! While all the other chicks are hot in their own way, I have found Seung Mina`s appearance to be more charming than the other girls. Not absurdly huge tits, no dominatrix and not annoying…at all. Seung Mina fights with a halberd pole type of weapon and thus benefits from maximum spacing between herself and her opponent, Mina is equipped with some of the longest non-projectile attacks in the game actually. So, she has the looks, the personality and the efectiveness. Why not add her to my list?

Have to admit that Capcom has done a lot of things right in the gaming industry. Aside from the interesting game ideas, they have also brought us some interesting babes to boot. Clad in a tight short, sleeve shirt, a beret, and a pair of fashionable shoulder pads came Capcom`s first resident babe, Jill Valentine. By far she has been one of the most popular gals in horror games, so much in fact that Capcom sort of turned her into a poster girl and has made appearances in such games as Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 (game which have nothing to do with the horror genre). Valentine is a member of the elite military team STARS’ Alpha, and she fights zombies with great accuracy. Smart and sassy, we would all love to have a date with her…as long as that date doesn`t include zombies of course.

She IS the Empress of Time for crying out loud! Do you need anything else? I always wondered if she can actually grow old you know, since she is the Empress of Time  and all that I guess she can look eternally young. That`s a nice quality for a high caliber lady. While she may be the antagonist on Warrior Within, the prince ends up saving her in later games. Her hot wardrobe and smooth-flowing hair make her worth rescuing, though. Thankfully, she has the ability to regenerate herself after being killed, as long as the Sands of Time remain, Kaileena will be able to reborn again.

Throughout Final Fantasy X (and its quasi follow-up X2), Rikku cracks wise with plenty of jokes, even in the most tense situations. Rikku is a bit ditzy and good-natured as well as a treasure fanatic. She also has an excellent figure and a knack for mechanics, making her almost every man`s dream. She like to steal things though.

Yes, she is here you friggin pervs! Once upon time, 2 companies fiercely battled at the Arcades for your quarters. Both Capcom and SNK, each tried to outdo themselves with bigger and better fighting games, with bigger and sexier babes, with bigger and sexier bo…erm…You get the idea. Both of them may have went a little over the top with some characters. Mai Shiranui is the living virtual prove of that fact. First appearing in Fatal Fury 2, she later became part of the King of Fighters series. With an attire that would make a Hotters girl blush, Mai, the overly cheerful ninja, “bounced” her away accross the screen. She became the first gaming hottie with bouncing tatas…Now, I know…I know. She is SNK`s original fighting game hottie with big breasts, which has obviously been her “main draw” as a character design and shows how far a nice set of big boobs can go. An unapologetic sex symbol maybe? Yep, but also incredible liberating. And don`t make me talk about her perfect posterior. This girl had it, and wasn`t ashamed of flaunting it. She perfectly shows that you can`t keep a good ninja down. Gravity ain`t got nothing on this girl.

For some weird reason, Felicia manages to sport both of these attributes. When I was younger I didn`t know if those white stripes were either body paint or fur, it doesn`t matter now. At the risk of sounding like a total freak, I would love to scratch behind her ears any day…and you`d too. Admit it, what guy doesn`t love a sexy girl in a skimpy kitty outfit? That pretty much speaks for itself.

Good-tempered, firm and at times sensitive, she is the girl you will ask for help to get out of trouble. Alyx doesn`t have large breasts, she doesn`t wear bikinis and thongs…and it doesnt`t matter. She is very pretty, charismatic and has beautiful eyes. Designed to be a geek`s babe dream. She is the whole package, has the brains, good looks, and a stinging personality that can keep everyone happy, making her one of the coolest game chicks ever.

Face it, she was going to be on this list in one way or another. All things considered, I seriously tried to avoid putting Samus Aran near the top of the list, but it was no use. The odds were totally in her favor. Taking on an entire race of nasty aliens is enough to warrant any character the status of ultra cool, however, to have a player battle through countless levels of nasty aliens while wearing an awesome armor and then drop the largest bomb in videogame history was one of the smartest moves ever.

Samus filled our gaming lives from the very beginning when she knocked on our door in 1986. With more than 2 decades of work under her belt, one can trully attest that this babe still has a lot to offer. For years, Aran has been something of a mold for developers to build after. She has since become one of the most important female characters ever. Energetic, beautiful, seductive, intellectual and so much more. Samus was the video game industry`s first dominant female, a femme de force that didn`t rely on a man to save her. A real femme fatale, the most beautiful, the feistiest, the bravest, the sexiest…

Here you have the very, very first female video game character of all time. The original Pac-Man is, to this day, one of the most popular games in the world, a game that became a part of the pop culture itself and spanned an enormous quantity of non-gaming products. Its unauthorized sequel introduced Ms. Pac-Man, the first female protagonist to ever star on a video game. In addtion to let you play for the first time as a female character, Ms. Pac-Man was built upon game`s mechanics that real women loved.  The inclusion of more specific female based elements and a female protagonist with some sort of archaic narrative is what leaded Ms. Pac-Man in becoming the biggest selling Arcade game in history. I`ll try to put this into perspective for you, if it wasn`t by Ms. Pac-Man we wouldn`t have any of the other female characters we have today. She was the very first at everything, she was ground zero and helped to pave the way for all others to come. In 1981, Ms. Pac-man struck a blow for women`s rights in video games and all of us need to be grateful for that. Just to add more to the equation, this girl is completely “round shaped” and gobbles up everything in sight. Is there anything sexier than that?
