by Honor HandHey, folks. HH here, I`m just posting this to let you know that were having some problems with the site. As some of you have probably already noticed, there is a Table (“s”?) that needs to be fixed. Unfortunately, the only ones that can fix this problem are the admins in charge of the whole site. Those are GamerXY and Eric, both of which haven`t logged in the last 2 months… So, Yeah….
If I`m right, Zori doesn`t have enough permission on the site to fix it. Neither Ray or me can fix this stuff either since we don`t have enough privileges on the site as well. So, here we are hoping for GamerXY to log in and fix the stuff. He has probably already received a notification via e-mail, so he might come back and fix it.
Sorry for the inconveniences this might cause to your daily activities on the forums 
On the other side, both the homepage and the Shoutbox to the right are still working fine. So, continue to enjoy yourself there.

Hey guys, I`ve been reading here and there and looking for information about this and here`s how this whole thing goes:
Our site is being powered by Wordpress 2.5. Wordpress itself is a blog publishing application. It is a very database-centric application since It keeps all information in the database – blog settings, posts, comments, links, users, etc. Now, all this database has to be keep organized on “tables”. Each one of this “tables” contain different parts from our site. For example, the comments that are created by readers as responses to posts go in a certain table, the list of users go in another table, the core of wordpress, the meta-data and all of them have their own table.

Now, I don`t understand more than a half of the fields there, but I can deduce that if the forums are not working, we certainly have a problem with the users database. Thats why we can`t make login on the forums, but the homepage and the shoutbox are fine since they are on different tables. Wow… computer terms are way more difficult to explain in English that in Spanish >.>
OK, Ok… concerning Omar`s question of why this table crashed, no Lol it doesn`t want to make us sad XD. Problem is that this tables become corrupted every once in awhile you know… like on your PC when you don`t make a defragment of your hard drive or when you don`t make the proper maintenance to your car. It`s kinda like the same thing, all of them will eventually crash due to this problem (Get it? Your car will also crash XD). Now, our database is totally messed up and fragmented right now, so the only thing we have to do… well, the only thing our admin has to do is to log in and repair the table.
This is handled in a rather easy way (there is also a hard way). Our admin has to log in his cPanel (Pretty much like the Control Panel of your PC). After that, he goes to the option of our MySQL Database *, then he clicks in “PHPmyadmin”, click the checkbox next to the corrupted table. The table will probably say “in use”. He use the dropdown menu at the bottom to select “repair table” and Bam! our forums should be working again.
As Ray said, you can also fix it making a SQL statement or, for those that enjoy coding, make a whole fix.php script for it.
On a side note, I really doubt that this has something to do with an April’ Fools Joke… is more like a lack of maintenance since this table need to be cleaned and repaired once each month and Gamer hasn`t been online in the last 2 months :-/

Oh! Wait, concerning the suggestion about an alternate forum someone said… Yeah… maybe, it would be nice to have a secondary forum/site, but as for now lets try to stick with this one.
and Yes, we need someone else in power to do this stuff if GamerXY and Eric are way to busy in their real life to come in.
If only Gamer or any other Nhotspot admin checked their e-mail >.<
Now, if all this fail… theres yet another route (a hard one) that we can use to recover our site, but I will keep that option hidden for now… lets just say that it involves whole amounts of knowledge about coding and networks.

obviously, something needs to be done.
for a site to function – those with the most power should be active AT LEAST once a week. for gamer not to be here in over 2 months, is just ridiculous – it’s completely abandoning the site. so many forum alterations and ideas have been ignored, because they cannot be furnished without gamer… craziandre’s clan and pit’s music player have both been fully confirmed and are ready to go – but cannot be put into place because of the lack of ANYONE with the power do so. o.O
if gamer is contacted, and logs onto nhotspot yet again… i hope he stays for a little longer this time. ><

Well I think that if he comes back, he shjould allow more people to have such privileges so that the more active people can make the required changes. He probably has other things to do now but he should always keep us in mind and come back and check how were doin every so often….

Ay me, this could be quite a predicament… We must wait for the return of Gamer, or we may have to temporarily take to another board… This is not a good sign DX Tournaments will be at a standstill, and my new Mike Tyson’s punchout review is lost in the site DX

Well, I’d have to say that we are waiting for a blue moon. I’ve NEVER seen Eric on before, and Gamer hasn’t been on for a while.
Personally I’ve been thinking that we should have a alternate forum. Just to have somewhere to post.

I see this as something serious. When Gamer logs on, if he does…he needs to give another member the same powers as an admin. With him being less active,just shows that we need another admin so that life on this site can function. Hopefully he will log on soon, considering what is going on, such as our one year anniversary. That might remind him about the site…hopefully.
As far as making another board while we wait is a great idea. Hope that someone can do that.

Before Eric decided to go off on other ventures he enlisted the site to GamerXY. That was quite a good while back. Perhaps Gamer will end up doing the same after all this is over an done with. Or Eric may even return. It’s anybody’s guess.
For the time being. We’ll just have to be patient. The Forums crashing occurs every few months or so. Just so happens it crashed when Gamer is off elsewhere. We still have the shoutbox, so that’s a plus. The site isn’t down completely.
In any case. He’ll log in eventually. And when he does he will most probably get at all of those issues. Including the site updates. Maybe this was for the best. Put the Forums on postpone in other words, until things get situated.

I’ve no idea what Table ’s’ is exactly or why it crashes occasionally for that matter. I could probably look into it.
But for those concerned, it’s a very simple fix. And nothing detrimental. It should be on the phpMyAdmin. As it’s a PhpBB Forum related issue. Just have to repair it with a SQL statement.
~I’ll check back on nHotspot during the weekend. Have patience.

Well unless GamerXY or Eric need to come on and fix this. They have the power to make things offcial but look. Craziandre’s clan has all the recuirments and still hasn’t been made. We need to have more people with power like that. (Like Ray or Zorithen.) If they ever come back (Which may be like in a month) to fix this problem they will need to give Someone power to do this stuff.

Man, no wonder i couldn’t log in my account. But don’t worry guys, he might come back and fix the problem! I think i know why nhotspot was crashed because xChrisx told me that his friend says that in April 1st, he said all the website include Nintendo Wi fi Connection, Xbox Live, and PS3 Online. Or it could be a April fools joke or i dont know thats what my brother says.
But this is not the end of the world! The Gamers will come back and fix it!

Oops. i didnt say it right about the nintendo wi fi connection, xbox live, and PS3 online. what im trying to say is that it was crashed but i check brawl online and it wasnt crashed. Maybe that wasn’t the problem.

no, i think the nhotspot forums are powered by ‘phpBB’
and the home pages are powered by ‘word press’

phpBB is an Internat package used by forums on the Internet.
This package is written in the PHP scrpiting language. That`s the part of the site that controls the forums most certainly. However, Wordpress on the other side includes widgets that are used to manage PHP and HTML code on a site.
Wordpress itself works under the PHP platoform and as far as I can understand it`s the one that encompasses the whole site (Including phpBB).
This is a bit confusing I`ve to admit, you can see at the bottom of our homepage that the site says “nHotspot.net is proudly powered by WordPress”, but when you click on the forums it says on the General Error page that it is “Powered by phpBB © 2000, 2002, 2005, 2007 phpBB Group”.
It`s weird, I know… but I`m just guessing that this phpBB package is inside our Wordpress application.
Either the approach, the fact is that it needs to be fixed

Much like the rest of us, Im hoping that gamer will be able to check his e-mail and fix this problem. I have not seen that particular screen about the forums crashing before. But as of right now, we can only hope for the best.

i know what programing is like…
it is like a script for a play or something
i wanted to learn programing, but i didn’t have time and it was very hard
stopped learning it
i don’t think you need a series of numbers and codes, those are what the computers read
the higher admins are not carrying out their duties
i don’t think they would check an e-mail with the user name of admin@nhotspot.net

Indeed, we don`t need codes or numbers to solve this… As I said before, he only to have use a dropdown menu and click the button that says “repair table”. Then the application will automatically repair that table doing whatever needs to be done.
What I was saying is that there are certain occasions when you need to program something, for example, if for whatever reason the application couldn`t solve the problem, then you have to manually create a script for it.
Take this example, I`ve a PC running on Linux and I could use any application to manage my GRUB, but there are times when I need to manually edit the file just because the application isn`t offering me the options I need… Not that I know about coding, heck no… I barely know how to program on BASIC lol, but a quick editing on a file with NANO could solve a lot of problems with that application… Just add some lines here and there, edit this one and done. Now the GRUB displays properly after turning my PC on.
Yeah… The admins are definitely not carrying their duties, but I can`t blame them because I don`t know them. I don`t know what kind of responsabilities does Eric or Gamer have on their real life… I just don`t know… It would have been nice though, if they decided to send us an e-mail or something, just to let us know if they are coming or not.
Personally, I think that the only thing we can do now is to wait for their return

On a side note, if Gamer or Eric haven`t come back for this weekend, we should take charge of this whole thing… I don`t know… I`ve some ideas, but lets better wait for this weekend.

if people see this as a reason to leave, then let them go. we know who will stay with the site no matter what, and who wont. i hope this problem doesn’t get too out of hand, however. it could be a very long time before we can enter the forums again… i’m surprised no one can contact gamer or eric. myspace, facebook, personal email… anything?

Just to let everyone know, I’ve searched through my old E-mail to find my old PhpBB2 site that I made. I’m editing it now to fit around our site.
This isn’t going to be a permanent change for me (unless the forums NEVER get fixed), so don’t worry! I’m just making it as an alternate for this forum!
I even have the ability to close all the forums if I want, so that means when they this site’s forum works, I’ll be able to shut mine down.
I will post the link when I’m 100% done with it, and keep it as a back-up site.

To bring some truth to this. From my own personal opinion.
Eric was a good Progammer, far as sites and creating things. GamerXY is very good at running Forums & seeing what needs to be done. The Two of them made a very good team here at nHotspot. Zorithen is just a cool cat, he probably knows more about Forums and sites together then I will ever know.
Far as me. The only thing I’m good at is prediction, and seeing where peoples heads are at. In my opinion that’s the only reason I’m on staff here. Because I bring a grown logical perspective in view.
To get to the meat of things. I’ve not the slightest idea if GamerXY can even fix this problem. Even though it’s a rather simple fix. I don’t have any idea on who was given what permissions or capabilities. Nor who has the potential to log in and fix the issue. Just one of them things. It’s not that no one was interested in knowing, it’s more of it’s been solved quickly before in the past ( 1-2 days max) that you wouldn’t even think of bothering to ask if anyone has the permission to log in Admin phpBB and handle it if it were to occur.
In any case. Even though the Forums part of the site is down. The site overall isn’t down entirely. Site was made by the active members. Long as ya’ll are here, and active it won’t change.
If anything, it will show who’s who. Far as the community of nHotspot goes. Alot of people come and go. As time goes on, the players change, people diversify. New games, new personal interest. Wether that be age as a factor. Or even just broadening personal horizens.
