The Wii Software Lineup (Part 3)

Finally, I`ve some free time to update this topic. I`ll make the Nintendo E3 report this weekend, but as of now, lets just concentrate on the stuff we most care about, the games anouncements, and boy there were plenty of them!. Even considering that most 3rd parties stepped up before the conference, E3 delivered on almost every department, and not only Nintendo, but Sony, Microsoft, Ubisoft and even EA, all of them showed lots of new games for us. The entertainment industry is crippling in some other areas (Movies and T.V.) with the recession, but the gaming world is still going strong.

Without further ado, here are the most notable game announcements of E3 2009

- New Super Mario Bros. Wii

This New Super Mario Bros. is a throwback to the style of the original Super Mario Bros. and allows four players to play the game together. Players can navigate the side-scrolling worlds alone as before or invite up to three others to join them at the same time on the same level at any point in the game for competitive and cooperative multiplayer fun. With the multiplayer mode, the newest installment of the most popular video game franchise is designed to bring yet another type of family entertainment into living rooms and engage groups of friends in fast-paced Super Mario Bros. fun.

Nintendo’s E3 2009 press conference reveals that Nintendo is collaborating with Team Ninja to deliver the next chapter of Samus’ story in Metroid: Other M. A combination of brutal third-person action and first-person shooting along with stunning visuals is sure to please many Nintendo fans, as Nintendo promises to continue to deliver amazing game experiences to their loyal fans. Wii owners get ready for an epic adventure, as Team Ninja adds their own flavor to the Metroid franchise with a darker and more in-depth storyline, as well as beautiful CGI and incredible first and third-person action segments. Metroid: Other M is set to debut in 2010, but an official release date has not yet been set.

- Super Mario Galaxy 2

Mario is back for another out-of-this-world adventure, and this time he’s bringing Yoshi along for the ride. Mario will be able to hop on his trusty steed, bringing together entirely new gameplay mechanics such as hovering, eating enemies, swinging from different ledges, and even inflating Yoshi to reach new areas. The game will include a number of enormous bosses, a wide variety of different levels (even ones absent from the first game like Tiny-Huge World), returning power-ups as well as new ones, and much, much more. Super Mario Galaxy 2’s development is still underway and the game is set for release some time next year.

This is the second chapter of the Zelda franchise made for the Wii game platform, following on the successful release of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. This new entry however, promises to completely revamp the Zelda franchise with unprecedented Wii control with the Wii Motion Plus accesory. To get an idea as to how the new Zelda might play, pay close attention to Archery & Sword Fighting in Wii Sports Resort. Set in a completely new era, Link is shown more mature than he has ever been in a Zelda game and without a Master Sword in hand? What could Nintendo be planning in this new Zelda adventure? We’ll find out next year as Nintendo officially announces the game.

Wii Fit Plus offers a range of new features and enhancements to help players reinvigorate their workouts, along with exercises and balance games designed to keep them fun. Players will find a new dimension to the Wii Fit experience as they easily set their own customized workout routines or choose 20, 30 or 40-minute workouts based on how much time they have available. Users will also be able to choose from specialized workout routines that focus on an individual’s personal fitness goals or certain target areas. And with the addition of activities like Skateboarding and Rhythm Kung Fu, players will be using the Wii Balance Board accessory in a variety of new and fun ways.

Nintendo’s newest IP kicks off with a lone warrior chopping through an army of robotic warriors with an outsized Cloud Strife-like energy sword. Welcome to the world of Monado. Gameplay appears to be open-world, where you’ll traverse lush jungles, glowing forests, climb sheer walls, and encounter the crumbling remains of a conquered people. Nintendo does a console RPG? Yes please.

In Spyborgs, players take on the role of a diverse team of five bionic superspies in a fight to save the world from a group of dastardly villains. Players jump between the identities of a team of five bionic superspies to combat a rogue squad of wacky, dysfunctional super villains. Each character has unique powers to match their super-spy skills, such as heavy firepower, martial arts, bladed weaponry, acrobatic skateboarding skills or pure robotic destruction. This cast of characters may make a misfit group individually, but by utilizing them as a team, the Spyborgs will have the power to save the world — if they don’t blow themselves up first! Engaging players in team-based challenges designed to utilize 2-player co-op play, Spyborgs takes the theme of “team” to a whole new level. In Single-player mode the “team’ theme continues as players jump from one member of the superspies’ team to the next, rapidly tackling different challenges designed around each character’s unique abilities. The game promises fast, addictive gameplay, unique controls offered by the Wii Remote as well as a storyline that refuses to take itself too seriously for a dynamic and fresh gaming experience.
